FAQs on health

I have a bad back and even walking can be too hard; what can I do to get some exercise?
The back trouble is simply from weak abdominal muscles and poor posture. When there is something structurally wrong with your back, like a herniated or bulging disk or some muscular problem, non-weight bearing activities like a stationary or recumbent bicycle might be better than activities where you pound, like jogging or dancing. One of the best activities is swimming, because the water supports your weight and there is very little pounding, especially in your back.

    ReplyDelete
  2. According to: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/asthma/

Asthma can't be cured. Even when you feel fine, you still have the disease and it can flare up at any time.

However, with today's knowledge and treatments, most people who have asthma are able to manage the disease. They have few, if any, symptoms. They can live normal, active lives and sleep through the night without interruption from asthma.

You can take an active role in managing your asthma. For successful, thorough, and ongoing treatment, build strong partnerships with your doctor and other health care providers.

Please study the current post for more information on 'Living With And Managing Asthma'

    1. Hi Jasdeep,

      According to: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/vent/

A ventilator is a machine that supports breathing. These machines mainly are used in hospitals. Ventilators:

      -Get oxygen into the lungs.
-Remove carbon dioxide from the body. (Carbon dioxide is a waste gas that can be toxic.)
      -Help people breathe easier.
-Breathe for people who have lost all ability to breathe on their own.

After studying the website: http://www.catastrophicinjury.com, I have gathered following information about brain injury:

Brain injury, that has been caused due to an accident or external force are either focal (confined to small area in brain) or diffuse (affecting a large area of the brain).

Recovery chances: Any brain injury that requires brain surgery can cause further damage to the brain if left untreated. Pressure on the brain is harmful because the skull is fixed and cannot expand; therefore, when the brain swells, it can be compressed up against the hard bony structure of the skull. A craniotomy is a surgical procedure to open the skull in order to access the brain for surgical repair.

As mentioned above, ventilator supports breathing of the patient, if it gets removed, then obviously person suffering from brain injury would find hard to breathe..

Recovery for brain injury is possible! But, as told by the website 'www.catastrophicinjury.com':

Health issues related to brain injury can cause long-term effects on physical (headache, sleep disturbances, loss of urinary control, frequent colds etc.), cognitive (Patients may have difficulty organizing their thoughts and may become easily confused and forgetful), language (patients may have difficulty finding the right words to use and forming proper sentences), speech (Speech may be slow, halting, slurred, and hard to understand), and psychological aspects(depression) of the patient’s life.

Brain injury can be diagnosed, sometimes with some bad effects on the life of the patient.. Fractured legs and arms take time to recover.

      Following information is from: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/lung-infection-treatment.html

If the lungs are infected, in maximum cases people get better with antibiotics and other related medicines, without having to go to the hospital. If there are complications attached to the patient's health, then there might arise the need for hospitalization. Treatment depends on what is the cause of the infection, be it upper respiratory infection or lower respiratory infection.

Hope the information provided is sufficient!
