Benefits of black tea

Most of us consume tea daily. But do you know that black tea is more powerful than tea containing milk? I read this in newspaper "Punjab Kesari" dated Friday, 23rd March, 2012. Here is the translation of the passage in English:

Specialists say that consumption of black tea for 3 or more than 3 times a day, helps in preventing heart problems. Daily consumption of black tea also prevents a person from type-2 diabetes. It has been proved from a review that, taking tea with or without milk, helps in reducing heart problems. With this, the level of bad cholesterol and blood sugar can be minimized in the body.

Experts say that the benefits of tea mostly comes from the flavonoids contained in it. Due to the presence of anti-oxidant items in tea, cardiovascular diseases can be avoided. Overall, due to the presence of flavonoids, swelling, blood-clotting are minimized, and there is an increase in the working capacity of blood vessels. Besides this, in an experiment of 12 weeks, about 87 volunteers found that the consumption of 3 cups of tea per day helps in preventing cardiovascular diseases. Nutritionist Dr. Carrie Ruxton, who is a member of T.A.P.(Tea Advisory Panel) says, "We get a lot of benefits from the anti-oxidant flavonoids contained in the black tee, especially in case of heart. However, it has been found from recent studies that flavonoids do their work only when we don't pour milk into it".

So, enjoy your healthy habit of consuming black tea! Happy reading :):):)

Facts about Ambulance!

  • An Ambulance is a commercial vehicle used to carry sick and injured people to hospital for treatment.
  • Modern-day ambulances are typically large automobiles on a van or light truck chassis with a maximum road weight up to 7.5 tonnes. (http://auto.indiamart.com/ambulance/)
  • They are categorized into various sub-categories such as Emergency ambulance, Patient Transport Ambulance, Response Unit and Charity Ambulance depending on their functional use:
  1. Emergency ambulance – The most common type of ambulance, which provide care to patients with an acute illness or injury.
  2. Patient transport ambulance – A vehicle, which has the job of transporting patients to, from or between places of medical treatment, such as hospital or dialysis center, for non-urgent care. These can be vans, buses or other vehicles.
  3. Response unit – Also known as a fly-car, which is a vehicle which is used to reach an acutely ill patient quickly, and provide on scene care, but lacks the capacity to transport the patient from the scene.
  4. Charity ambulance – A special type of patient transport ambulance is provided by a charity for the purpose of taking sick children or adults on trips or vacations away from hospitals, hospices or care homes where they are in long term care. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambulance)
  •  An ambulance's helpline number is 108.
  • The name "AMBULANCE" written in front and back of the vehicle is laterally inverted like this:

It is done so that when the ambulance is on its job, then while traveling over road, other vehicles could leave its way by recognizing it as an ambulance, by reading the letters "AMBULANCE" in correct form through the rear-view mirror.

AIDS: Acquired Immuno Deficiency Sydrome

What is AIDS?
AIDS is the final stage of HIV disease (HIV: Human immunodeficiency virus), which causes severe damage to immune system. Common bacteria, yeast, parasites, and viruses that usually do not cause serious disease in people with healthy immune systems can cause fatal illnesses in people with AIDS. HIV virus is estimated to spread in people of age 25-44 years.

Transmssion
80% of this virus spread through sexual contact; 18% spread by untidy blood transfusion to infected patients; and 2% of this virus spread through used and infected syringes, needles etc.A pregnant woman can transmit the virus to her fetus through their shared blood circulation, or a nursing mother can transmit it to her baby in her breast milk.

Symptoms
People with AIDS have had their immune system damaged by HIV and are very susceptible to these opportunistic infections. Common symptoms are:
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Sweats (particularly at night)
  • Swollen lymph glands
  • Weakness
  • Weight loss
Note: At first, infection with HIV may produce no symptoms. Some people, however, do experience flu-like symptoms with fever, rash, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes, usually 2 - 4 weeks after contracting the virus. Some people with HIV infection stay symptom-free for years between the time when they are exposed to the virus and when they develop AIDS.

AIDS: as viewed by society
People often discriminate against people suffering from HIV-AIDS because they perceive that the AIDS-infected person must have sexual contact with someone and got the disease. But that is not always true! Victims of AIDS get the disease because of the several factors as mentioned above.

AIDS is not spread by
  • Casual contact such as hugging
  • Mosquitoes
  • Participation in sports
  • Touching items that were touched by a person infected with the virus
